ABOUT JACKIE BITTNER
Jacqueline “Jackie” Bittner is the owner and head trainer of Hidden Lake Farm Riding School currently celebrating its 53rd Anniversary at the same location. Jackie was recently featured in the documentary “Harry and Snowman” and mentioned in the best- selling book “The Eighty Dollar Champion”.
Jackie has had a life- long relationship with horses getting her first pony at 3 years old. She trained seriously with Harry de Leyer during her years at the Knox School and for many years after. Also, Captain Vladmir Littaur wrote many books and pamphlets using her pictures. At several of his clinics, she demonstrated for him. In addition she showed many sale horses to top riders for Alex Konyot of Davey, Florida. Jackie spent time training in Neuchatel, Switzerland. She also had a very successful career showing horses at venues including Madison Square Garden in New York City and the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
She has been a member of the Smithtown Hunt for over 50 years filling all positions including a mastership for 12 years. While a Master she was
awarded the Friendship Award from the Belle Meade Hunt in Georgia. Jackie has fox hunted and paced with many different hunts including Exmoor in Somerset, England. She also received the Supremacy Award as a student at The Knox School in St James, NY.
Although she started out as an elementary school teacher, she quickly realized she was meant to teach riding. Many of her students have gone on to become Masters and have continued to be successful in the hunt field, show ring and eventing. Some have followed in her footsteps becoming riding instructors themselves. When referring to her many students Jackie states: “I’m proud to have been a part of their lives and continue to enjoy their friendships.”
